Audience Reception on Media in “Vincenzo” Series

Abstract


A Television series or television drama is a medium that has a function as entertainment and can also describe an existing reality or form a reality. Television drama as a mass media can have an effect on the audience, one of which is the perception formed by the storyline. The Korean drama “Vincenzo ” (2021) tells how the media works, and it can shape the audience's perception on media. This study aims to determine and describe the audience's reception about the media in the Korean drama "Vincenzo " which was analyzed using Stuart Hall's reception theory. This research is a qualitative descriptive type with data collection methods through questionnaires for respondents who have watched the series. The results of this study indicate that the media is interpreted differently by each audience depending on the background of the respondents. Responses from respondents also show that the audiences have understood the journalistic code of ethics when they can map out answers in accordance with the applicable code of ethics
